Sugar-Free Desserts That Taste Delicious for Kids

Cake → Date-sweet carrot cake.

No Sugar Apple Crumble Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 medium apples diced
  • 6 dried dates diced
  • juice of 1 orange (to a sweet taste)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon, ground
  • 3/4 cup rolled oats
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted or coconut oil 

Instructions:

  • Combine apples, dates juice and cinnamon in a baking dish. -Combine oats and melted butter and scoop over apple mixture. -Bake at 180C (356F) for 25 – 30 minutes or until tender and light golden. 
  • Your children will love it as it is sweet naturally from the apples and dates, warmed sweet and cozy taste whilst not a refined sugar in sight.

Banana Cookies 

A healthy treat to munch on. 

Ingredients: 

  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1 1/2 cup rolled oats 
  • 1 egg (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla 
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda 
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon 
  • 1/4 cup raisins or mini dark chocolate chips 

Instructions: 

  • Mix all
  • Bake for 20 minutes at 180°C or until it is golden and firm to the touch.

Mango Turmeric Yogurt Softie

A sweet and slightly spicy dessert ideal for summer to make for the littles. 

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe mangoes, pureed
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • A sprinkle of turmeric 
  • Nuts or coconut (optional for crunch)

Instructions:

  • Place everything in a bowl and pour into ice lolly molds/cups and freeze. 
  • Enjoy this creamy frozen delight that’s packed full of vitamins!

Sugar free Cream Biscuits

This is a great comparison to the store bought cream biscuits.  

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup of almond flour 
  • 1/3 cup of dry date powder 
  • 1 egg 
  • 2 tbsp of melted butter or melted coconut oil 
  • 1/2 tsp of baking powder 
  • A bit of vanilla! 

Filling: (optional) low fat cream (or nut/seed butter for variety)

Instructions:

  • Combine everything for the biscuit, roll and flatten into small balls on a tray. 
  • Bake 10-12 mins at 180 degrees C
  • Once cool, place together with a little cream OR nut/seed butter.

Yogurt Berry Bark

Quick and refreshing, so many good things to eat. 

Ingredients: 

  • 2 cups plain Greek yogurt (unsweetened)   
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla   
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts  
  • 1/2 cup mixed berries   

Instructions:

  • Spread yogurt over a parchment lined tray, sprinkle over vanilla, nuts and berries. 
  • Cut once set and enjoy!

Fruity Ice Pops

  • A healthy icy treat 

Ingredients: 

pureed watermelon, mango, banana, or pineapple 

  • splash of lemon juice 

Instructions: 

  • Blend the fruits until they are smooth, and pour into an ice pop tray; you can also create layers with the fruit for a visual appeal 
  • After freezing completely, you will have a refreshing “sweetness” that is hydrating and made with only naturally occurring sugars. 

No Sugar Pancake Sheet 

Here is an unrefined pancake sheet that isn’t too sweet, is multipurpose, and can accommodate being made in advance so it can be enjoyed as a flat pancake with fruit swirls for breakfast, brunch, or enjoyed as an afternoon snack.  

Ingredients: 

  • 2 bananas, mashed 
  • 2 eggs (or flax egg) 
  • 1 cup flour (whole wheat or oat) 
  • 1/2 cup liquid milk 
  • Handful of your favorite frozen berries to swirl in 

Instructions: 

  • Combine batter, pour in tray and swirl berries in. 
  • Bake at 180-degree Celsius for 15 mins.

Sugar free Indian Inspired Sweets   

Amazing as an easy nutrient dense snack for the celebrations or just something healthy. 

These treats will keep you busy while you enjoy these little treasures; Dry fruit laddoos (dates and nuts rolled in coconut), or “barfi” which is made with almond flour and coconut, or jaggery powder, and sugar free.  

You can also make a creamy white dessert as in a rice pudding, with black rice cooked in milk with stevia or fig added for sweetness.  These are all fun for fussy eaters, who may not want to try something sweet, or enough to encourage trying something new/different. 

All these are pre-made, batch made, loved by family and kids healthy meals. 

Quick Low Sugar Snacks

Kids or family pack, lunch box or for family playdates or after school snacks, playdate snacks.

  • Some of the types of desserts you may try
  • Carrot sticks and hummus.
  • Cheese cubes with nut butter; with fruit, and sliced apple.
  • plain popcorn
  • Sometimes chi chi pudding made with your pureed fruit, then served in fruit, or separate cubes.

Sugar-free desserts for kids are often about restriction and no fun. You could be missing the explosion of a wildly good experience of mixing flavors, color, and nutrition.
