The solution is with fun, easy Gandhi Jayanti activities for preschoolers. This blog is full of simple Gandhi Jayanti activity ideas that you can implement at home to make this day both fun and significant for your child.

Who Was Mahatma Gandhi?

For our little preschoolers, we can just tell them that Mahatma Gandhi, lovingly known as Bapu, was a very gentle and courageous man who lived long ago in India. He showed us all that we can resolve big problems not by being mean and fighting, but by peacefully talking, being honest, and being kind to all. He is like a superhero of peace in real life!

Why Do We Celebrate His Birthday?

We observe Gandhi Jayanti on October 2nd to honor his birthday and all the wonderful things he taught us. It’s a day to reflect on ways we can follow him a little more – being honest, being peaceful, and showing love for our friends, our family, and our world.

A Few Simple Teachings from Bapu’s Life

For little children, we can concentrate on these three simple concepts:

  1. Always Tell the Truth (Satya): honesty is very important as it helps us be true to ourselves and others.
  2. Be Kind to Everyone (Ahimsa): We have to be gentle towards our friends, animals, and even tiny insects.
  3. Do Things Yourself (Self-Reliance): We can do small things by ourselves, such as cleaning up our toys.

10 Fun Gandhi Jayanti Activities for Preschoolers

Ready for some fun? Here are ten super simple Gandhi Jayanti activities ideas just right for little hands and big hearts!

1. The Dandi March Sand Tray: Fill a tray with sand or salt to create a miniature beach. Have your child take a small toy figure or a pebble on a “walk” across the tray. This is a fun way to simulate Gandhi’s legendary Salt March.

2. Three Wise Monkeys Craft: Cut out monkey heads and have your child glue them onto paper. Discuss how the monkeys remind us to “See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil.” A nice visual lesson!

3. Charkha Spinning Fun: Paint a small paper plate and stick a stick through the middle to create a toy spinning wheel (Charkha). Describe how Gandhi spun his own fabric.

4. “Gandhi Jayanti My Peaceful Hands” Art: Draw the outline of your child’s hand on a piece of paper and have them color it in with very happy, bright colors. Write “I help with my hands” on it. This is a great Gandhi Jayanti preschool activity that emphasizes kindness.

5. Honesty Circle Time: Sit in a circle and take turns sharing simple, honest stories. For instance, “Today, I spoke truth when I said I took the last cookie.” This promotes honesty positively.

6. Cleanliness Drive: Provide your child with a small piece of cloth or a toy sweep and allow them to assist you in sweeping or dusting a small corner. This reinforces the importance of being clean, something Gandhi ji believed firmly.

7. “I Can Do It Myself” Game: Inspire independence by having a friendly race to do one’s own shoes or zip up their bag first. Praise their attempts!

8. Grandpa Glasses Craft: With black and white paper, assist your child in creating their own pair of Gandhi-like glasses. They’ll be delighted to wear their “Bapu glasses”!

9. Kindness Tree: Draw a large tree on chart paper. Each time your child performs a kind act, allow them to place a paper leaf or a flower on the tree. Observe the “kindness” grow!

10. Sing a Peaceful Song: Make it a point to learn a simple rhyme or song about peace and friendship together. Music is an excellent means for children to relate to feelings.

How Parents Can Imbibe These Values at Home?

The best way to teach is by being a role model.

    • Encourage Honesty: Give positive praise when your child is honest, even if it’s about a mistake.
    • Speak Softly: Show them how to use words, not hands, to express feelings.
    • Engage Them in Housework: Get them to assist you in setting the table or watering the plants. It gives them confidence and responsibility.
