It was a sunny afternoon, and the school bell had just rung. The playground buzzed with cheerful chatter as children made their way home. Among them were Leo and Maya<\/strong>, best friends since kindergarten, walking side by side with backpacks bouncing on their shoulders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As they passed the park near the bakery, Leo suddenly stopped in his tracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He rushed over and picked up a brown leather wallet<\/strong> with golden edges. It was heavy and had a small name tag inside. The sun reflected off its glossy surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWow, Maya! Look at this,\u201d Leo said excitedly. \u201cIt\u2019s a wallet! And there\u2019s money inside!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maya leaned in and peered over his shoulder. \u201cSomeone must have dropped it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leo\u2019s fingers clutched the wallet tightly. \u201cMaybe we could buy something\u2026 Just one candy bar,\u201d he said, half-joking, half-tempted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maya looked at him, frowning slightly. \u201cLeo…\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And just then, a voice echoed in his head\u2014his dad\u2019s voice<\/strong>, from one of their bedtime talks:
\u201cLeo, remember\u2014honesty is the best policy. Always do what\u2019s right, even when no one\u2019s watching.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leo took a deep breath and nodded. \u201cYou\u2019re right. We should return it. Let\u2019s go to Mr. Patel\u2019s shop. He knows almost everyone in the neighborhood.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Together, they hurried down the lane to the corner store where Mr. Patel<\/strong>, the kind shopkeeper with glasses always slipping down his nose, was busy arranging boxes of snacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMr. Patel!\u201d Leo called out, panting a little. \u201cWe found this wallet near the park. Do you know who it belongs to?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Patel took the wallet and adjusted his glasses. He opened it carefully and read the name tag inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAh, this belongs to Mr. Singh<\/strong>! He comes here every morning for milk and has been searching all day for his missing wallet,\u201d Mr. Patel said, smiling warmly. \u201cYou two did the right thing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leo and Maya looked at each other, their hearts thumping with pride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just then, the bell above the shop door jingled, and in walked a worried-looking elderly man\u2014Mr. Singh<\/strong> himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before anyone could speak, Mr. Patel handed over the wallet. \u201cMr. Singh, look who found it!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Singh\u2019s face lit up with joy. \u201cOh, thank goodness! I thought I\u2019d lost it forever! This has my ID, some important papers, and even a photo of my grandson.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He turned to the children, his eyes kind and grateful. \u201cThank you, Leo and Maya. Your honesty means so much to me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leo grinned and scratched his head. \u201cWe\u2019re just glad we could help.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Singh smiled. \u201cAnd you did more than help\u2014you reminded us all that there are still good hearts in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As they left the shop, Maya whispered, \u201cAren\u2019t you glad we didn\u2019t keep it?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leo nodded. \u201cI really am. I thought buying candy would make me happy\u2014but this feeling? It\u2019s way better.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They continued their walk home, the golden sun setting behind them, and a special glow warming their hearts\u2014the glow of doing the right thing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
